There are certain situations in life that seem to have no explanation. How come when we’re in a hurry, we always have the slowest line at the supermarket? And why does the neighbor’s cat seem to like our garden to do its business? And again: where do the holes in our favorite T-shirt come from?

Today we want to help you understand the cause of those annoying tears in clothes.

Washing
During washing, these small holes can appear in the clothes, which is why it is important to separate them well before washing and not to mix together t-shirts, jeans or clothes with accessories. The same risk occurs with the zippers of skirts and blouses, make sure they are always closed before putting them in the washing machine. If you want to avoid this at all costs, you can wash clothes with buttons, hooks and loops separately.

Washing machine
Yes, sometimes it’s the washing machine’s fault. Buttons and zippers lose parts that can damage shirts during washing. We recommend that you check the inside of the washing machine every 4 months and remove these residues. However, in some cases, the problem is simply related to the washing process, as the fibers swell and contract under the influence of water.

Abrasion.
This is the main cause of holes in T-shirts and is caused by contact with metal buckles, buttons, zippers or clothing accessories. Nor should we neglect the contact we have with the clothes we wear, whether against sharp or sandy surfaces.

Moths.
We all fear them, especially for the holes they cause whenever they have the opportunity to be in our clothes. In almost all cases, their holes are irregularly shaped and appear on top of clothing. We recommend that you use a moth repellent in your wardrobe and drawers. If you suspect the holes are caused by moths, wash all clothing and thoroughly clean the walls of cabinets and drawers.

Poor quality clothes.
In 80% of cases, these small holes appear on shirts made with low quality fabrics and even in processes with high quality fabrics, but with cheap embroidery and harsh dyeing or bleaching processes that weaken the performance and lifespan of the garments. We recommend, at the time of purchase, to check the quality of the fabric by pulling it lightly and rubbing it. If you see lint or cracks, it is a poor quality garment.
